Illinois quick hits: Danville factory closing; former paralegal sentenced for embezzlement

Danville factory closing

The Quaker Oats factory in Danville is permanently closing. Company officials confirmed the closure will take place June 8, leaving about 500 employees out of work.

The company is offering one-on-one assistance to workers affected by the closure with résumé updates and interviewing skills advice. The plant was built in 1968.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Becky Sutton of Manteno diverted nearly $700,000 in creditor payments to personal accounts, which she used to make mortgage payments, buy a car and pay her son’s college tuition.

Sutton embezzled the funds from 2009 to 2018 while working on bankruptcy cases for a law firm.

IDOT survey opens

The Illinois Department of Transportation is asking the public to provide feedback on the state’s transportation system and the department’s overall performance through its annual Illinois Traveler Opinion Survey. Available now through April 26, the survey can be taken online by visiting idot.illinois.gov.

Conducted in partnership with the University of Illinois Springfield, the survey is a chance for people to give their opinion on a range of topics. This year’s survey asks for input on road conditions, ice-and-snow removal, planning priorities, electronic vehicles and more.
