Illinois quick hits: Early vote totals; flooded cars warning; ‘Money Match’ checks for some

Early vote totals

More than 740,000 registered Illinois voters have already cast a ballot.

While the election is less than two weeks away, data from the Illinois State Board of Elections shows of the 8 million active registered voters, more than 1.1 million people requested a mail-in ballot.

Nearly 432,000 have returned their ballot and 305,000 have voted early as of Tuesday. The election is Nov. 5.

Flooded cars warning

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning that flood-damaged vehicles from recent hurricanes Helene and Milton may soon appear on the used car market, taking advantage of the nationwide vehicle shortage.

Thousands of vehicles were flooded across southeastern states, and some sellers may try to hide this damage through extensive cleaning and moving vehicles through multiple states to conceal their history.

‘Money Match’ checks for some

Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs is encouraging nearly 140,000 residents to cash the unclaimed property checks that are arriving in the mail.

The checks went out as part of the latest round of the Enhanced Money Match program, which allows the Treasurer’s Office to automatically return missing money to people without the need to file a claim.

Since 2018, the Illinois Treasurer’s Office has returned more than $102 million to nearly 422,000 people through the Enhanced Money Match program.
