Eclipse traffic

Heavy traffic is expected on Illinois interstates for the solar eclipse. Officials are asking motorists to be patient and courteous and scan ahead for any traffic slow downs or backups. They also said the interstate is not a safe place for slowing or stopping to view the solar eclipse.

Parking along interstate highways is for emergencies only. A large crowd is expected in Carbondale, which will experience totality. Southern Illinois University is providing a live stream of the eclipse.

Measles warning issued

The Chicago Department of Public Health has issued a warning about possible measles exposure at several city locations. Officials said there are several exposure locations in public settings, including on city buses and at three public schools.

People potentially exposed to measles should monitor symptoms, including rash, high fever and red watery eyes. Symptoms can take 7 to 21 days to appear. Over 50 cases of measles have been reported in Illinois.

Janitors score new contract

More than 8,000 commercial janitors in the Chicago area have voted to approve a new three-year contract. According to the Service Employees International Union Local 1, the deal comes after weeks of negotiations and the threat of a strike.

Union officials said the janitors were able to secure the largest wage increases ever within the commercial market. The agreement will provide janitors with 100% employer-paid health care, more days off, and the recognition of Juneteenth as a holiday
