Effort underway to recall Chicago mayor

A Chicago man is trying to get Mayor Brandon Johnson recalled. Dan Boland, who says the mayor should be held accountable, is the man behind the initiative “Recall This Fall” that would put a recall ordinance on the fall Chicago ballot. It will require over 56,000 petition signatures to get there. Even if the signatures are enough to put the measure on the fall ballot, it will not automatically trigger a recall. That would require another round of petitions and a vote conducted through a special election.

Mother charged after child overdoses

A Joliet woman is facing charges after her 12-year-old daughter died after taking a combination of heroin and fentanyl. Last Sunday, police were called after Colette Bancroft found her daughter unresponsive in their home. When officers arrived they performed CPR and administered Narcan. The girl was taken to a hospital and died Wednesday. Officers learned that Bancroft and her daughter shared a bedroom and the suspected drugs were in the mother’s purse. Bancroft was charged with possession of controlled substances with more charges possible.

Safest cities listed

A new study reveals the safest cities in Illinois for 2024. According to SafeWise, Illinois residents, when compared to the rest of the country, exhibit the third-highest level of concern regarding daily safety overall. According to the study, Campton Hills is the safest city. The Kane County community has reported only a single crime this year, which was a burglary. Libertyville, Wauconda, Pingree Grove and Harrisburg rounded out the top five.
