Fatal school bus crash
Three children and two adults were killed Monday when a school bus collided with a semi-truck in west central Illinois.
The school bus was traveling on Route 24 near Rushville when police said it crossed the center line and struck an oncoming truck. Both drivers and three children were killed. Police said the investigation continues.
Rushville is a community of about 3,000 people northwest of Springfield.
More measles cases at migrant shelter
Two new cases of measles were confirmed at a Chicago migrant shelter for new arrivals on Monday, which means the site has now seen four cases of the highly contagious disease.
Officials with the Chicago Department of Public Health said the new cases were adults. Also on Monday, Mayor Brandon Johnson urged Chicagoans to get vaccinated.
Health officials said the United States is currently experiencing a resurgence of measles, with 17 states having reported cases.
Guilty plea in fraud case
A Springfield woman has pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars from the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation.
Prosecutors said LeAnn Shirley, who was employed as treasurer, devised a scheme to defraud the foundation by moving nearly $80,000 from its account to an account in Vermont.
The Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation is a charity committed to preserving the history of the Illinois State Police.
