Illinois quick hits: Food stamp theft; man sentenced for threatening Biden

Food stamp theft

Stolen food benefits are a growing problem throughout Illinois. WGN reports during a 6-month span, more than $4.5 million was stolen from Illinois’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

Money is loaded on an electronic card that can be used at most grocery stores, but thieves are placing skimming devices on in-store payment systems, allowing them to steal money from the cards.

Man sentenced for threatening Biden

A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after prosecutors said he made threats toward President Joe Biden and other officials.

Adam Mouser, 40, was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to charges in January. Mouser used social media to threaten violence against Biden and his family, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and various members of Congress.

Air and Water show rescheduled

The Chicago Air and Water Show is being moved because of a scheduling conflict.

With the Windy City hosting the Democratic National Convention for the first time since 1996, the Air and Water Show will take place one week earlier than normal.

The show will take place Aug. 10 and 11, with 2 million people expected to attend.
