Illinois quick hits: Health officials brace for measles cases; Bulls banners damaged after rock concert

Health officials brace for measles cases

The Illinois Department of Public Health is bracing for a possible measles outbreak in the state. Nationwide, nearly 300 cases have been reported, far ahead of last years’ pace.

Measles is considered to be one of the most infectious diseases. Officials with IDPH said the best prevention method for measles is getting vaccinated, and that Vitamin A does not prevent measles.

Body identified

Almost 24 years after a woman went missing from St. Louis, her case has made a breakthrough in Illinois.

The Columbia Police Department has announced that a Jane Doe they discovered in 2002 has been identified as Carol Jean Hemphill. Hemphill disappeared in 2001, leaving behind a husband and her children. Less than a year later, a body was found near a creek in Monroe County.

DNA samples between the remains and Hemphill’s biological son matched.

Bulls banners damaged after rock concert

All six Chicago Bulls championship banners have been removed from the rafters of the United Center after sustaining damage from a concert.

It was discovered that the banners suffered heat damage during the Chicago heavy metal band Disturbed’s concert last Saturday.

Officials said the fabric on the banners warped so they will not be returned for the rest of the season.
