Illinois quick hits: High-rise climber arrested; oldest skydiver passes away

High-rise climber arrested

A man was arrested Tuesday after scaling a downtown Chicago high-rise.

Tenants of the 42-story building were told to stay away from windows as the man climbed up to the top of the building. Police were waiting for him and took him into custody once he reached the top.

The man was reportedly an anti-abortion activist and live streamed the climb on his Instagram account.

New rule for drinks

The Illinois Liquor Control Commission has adopted a permanent rule regulating the placement of co-branded alcoholic beverages on retail sales floors.

Officials said the rule seeks to protect the public from confusion between alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages with similar branding and to prevent the marketing of such alcoholic beverages to children.

Establishments with larger retail sales floors are prohibited from displaying co-branded alcoholic beverages immediately adjacent to soft drinks, fruit juices, bottled water, candy or snack foods if those snack foods portray cartoons or youth-oriented images.

Oldest skydiver passes away

The 104-year-old Chicago woman who became the oldest person in the world to skydive has passed away. Dorothy Hoffner died in her sleep at her retirement center.

Last month, Hoffner completed an assisted skydive in Ottawa, breaking a record set by a 103-year-old Swedish woman. Hoffner, who first skydived when she was 100, would have turned 105 in December.
