Prosecutors rebuttal expected in Madigan case
U.S. government attorneys are expected to present their rebuttal case Thursday after the defense rests at the corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain.
Before jurors reported to the courtroom Thursday morning, Judge John Robert Blakey conferred with prosecutors and defense attorneys about forfeiture issues in the event of a conviction. U.S. Assistant Attorney Amar Bhachu said a key issue involved whether or not Madigan and McClain had to have their “hands on the money” in order for the government to seek forfeiture of funds.
ISP: Interstate shootings down
For the third year in a row, the number of shootings on Illinois interstate highways has dropped. According to Illinois State Police, interstate shootings statewide decreased 31% in 2024 compared to the year before.
Since a record high in 2021, there has been a decrease in interstate shootings every year. ISP also saw an increase in stolen vehicles recovered and firearms seized in 2024.
Pilot charged with DUI before flight
A flight from Savannah, Georgia, bound for Chicago was delayed for several hours Wednesday due to a pilot being arrested and charged with DUI.
The pilot, 52-year-old David Allsop, was removed from the aircraft at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and taken to a local jail.
