(The Center Square) – Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order Wednesday requiring stricter standards and disclosure requirements be put in place for gun and ammunition suppliers to the Chicago Police Department.

Johnson said the order is to divert money from suppliers found to also have an inordinate amount of weapons used in crimes in the city, providing new oversight into the city’s spending that will prevent it from supporting sellers also involved in weapons trafficking.

COMMISSION WANTS EXTEND TIMELINE FOR CPD SUPERINTENDENT

Anthony Driver, a member of the Chicago Community Commission on Public Safety and Accountability, sent a letter to city alders Wednesday, urging them to extend the timeline for the commission to search for the next Chicago Police Department superintendent.

Driver asked the city council to extend the search deadline from Nov. 12 to after the next mayoral election, which is in late February. He said the search presents confidentiality concerns for potential candidates, alongside uncertainty as to who the next superintendent will serve under.
