Jury begins deliberations in corruption case

Jury deliberations are underway in the bribery case against Illinois Sen. Emil Jones III.

Jones is accused of accepting bribes from a red-light camera company executive whose cooperation with prosecutors has also brought down several other politicians. He has remained in office since his September 2022 indictment on three counts, including bribery and lying to the FBI, even winning another four-year term in the Senate in an unopposed race after being charged.

State to file migrant sanctuary response

The state of Illinois, Cook County and the city of Chicago have until Tuesday to file their position on a briefing schedule in the federal challenge of migrant sanctuary policies.

The U.S. Department of Justice last week filed a motion for summary judgement against Illinois laws that prohibit state and local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. The state has motioned for the case to be dismissed.

Large cocaine bust

A California man remains jailed after police said they found $10 million of cocaine in his semi truck.

Illinois State Police said they made a traffic stop on Interstate 74 near LeRoy Thursday. They report they found 234 pounds of cocaine contained in four large garbage containers in the back of the truck.

Authorities believe it is the largest cocaine bust ever in McLean County.
