Illinois quick hits: Lake County officer involved shooting; mayor’s traffic violations

Lake County officer involved shooting

A northern Illinois deputy who attempted to revive a blood-covered man ended up fatally shooting him after he woke up and lunged at him with a meat cleaver.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports officers responded to a home in Round Lake for a report of a bleeding man who needed help. Officers found the man unconscious lying on a mattress in a pool of blood. One of the deputies attempted life-saving efforts when the man woke up and grabbed a nearby meat cleaver and charged at him. That is when the deputy opened fire.

Chicago gets credit upgrade

Chicago earned a credit rating upgrade from Fitch Ratings Thursday. Fitch boosted the rating one notch to BBB+ from BBB, with a stable outlook.

The upgrade comes less than a year after the city shed its lone junk rating from Moody’s Investors Service last November. Chicago’s finances have been strained by a growing unfunded pension liability and more recently the cost to care for thousands of non-citizen migrants from the southern U.S. border.

Mayor’s traffic violations

Brandon Johnson has been the mayor of Chicago for five months, but he has taken the lead over his predecessors in the number of red light and speed camera violations in that amount of time.

According to records reviewed by CWBChicago, the black SUVs that Chicago police drive him around town in have racked up 11 moving violations. One of the SUVs also picked up a parking ticking this month.
