Light turnout expected in Illinois primaries

It’s Election Day for Illinois primaries, with polls open around the state.

You can cast your ballot in several contests, including the race for president, but with Joe Biden and Donald Trump both unofficially clinching their nominations, the Illinois Board of Elections predicts a low voter turnout.

The polls, which opened at 6 a.m., will remain open until 7 p.m.

Man, child killed in police-involved shooting

A four-year-old and a 57-year-old man who held the child at knifepoint were killed in an officer-involved shooting in Macomb.

The Macomb Police Department responded to a domestic violence call Saturday night near the Western Illinois University campus when they saw a man with a knife. Police say the man ducked out of view of officers and came back into view holding the knife around the child’s throat.

Investigators said the officer fired one shot and both the man and child suffered fatal gunshot injuries.

New property tax numbers for proposed Bears stadium

While the Chicago Bears continue to shift their focus to building a new stadium in Chicago, officials in Arlington Heights released new property tax figures for building a stadium in their community.

The proposal would have the team pay $6.3 million in property taxes for the first year and $3.6 million the second year. The figures are lower than what the taxes would be under the Cook County Board of Review’s February assessment.
