Illinois Quick Hits: Man charged after triple-fatal crash in Kendall County

(The Center Square) – State police have arrested a Sugar Grove man in connection with a Kendall County crash that killed three people from Des Moines, Iowa Friday night.

Carson M. Rehkopf, 22, is charged with eight aggravated DUI counts along with other offenses after a head-on collision on Illinois Route 71 claimed the lives of James Witter, 61, Amy Witter, 38, and a 4-year-old girl.

Police said Rehkopf was driving southbound but entered the northbound lanes to pass several vehicles when the crash occurred.

SUBURBAN MAN SENTENCED FOR BANK ROBBERIES

A federal judge has sentenced a Franklin Park man to 14 years in prison for six bank robberies in the Chicago suburbs.

German Campos Jr., 26, pleaded guilty in March 2026 to robbing banks in Schaumburg, Elmhurst, Park Ridge and Niles from October 2023 to August 2024.

Prosecutors said Campos brandished a gun at bank tellers and customers in five of the six robberies.

10 ARRESTS, 67 TRANSPORTS REPORTED DURING LOLLAPALOOZA

Chicago officials say there were ten arrests during Lollapalooza 2026 from July 30 through Aug. 2.

According to the Office of Emergency Management & Communications, the preliminary arrest total was lower than in 2025, when there were 12 arrests.

The number of ambulance transports increased from 42 in 2025 to 67 this year.

EQUITY COMMISSION TO OFFER SWAG AT STATE FAIR

The Illinois Commission on Equity and Inclusion says it will offer a resource-packed informational booth with an opportunity to snag “cool” commission swag at the Illinois State Fair.

The CEI announced on Monday that it would showcase its outreach efforts on Aug. 16 and 17 in the Illinois Building Senior Center.

The fair runs from Aug. 13-23 in Springfield.

The equity commission recently reported an increase in the number of Illinois businesses that get better access to state contracts.
