Multistate auto theft ring busted
Five men have been arrested in central Illinois accused of running a multi-state auto theft ring. Bloomington Police report the men were from Texas and face seven counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle worth more than $25,000.
Police received a tip that an auto theft ring that was operating in several states, including Wisconsin and Texas, was in central Illinois. Police said the group was using social media to sell stolen cars.
Program suspended amid hazing investigation
Eastern Illinois University has suspended its men’s swimming and diving program due to reports of hazing.
School officials announced the suspension Thursday, saying the program would be shut down for the remainder of the fall semester. The university and its athletic department immediately began a formal investigation into the allegations, which will be led by the Office of the Dean of Students.
Lincoln photograph to be unveiled
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield will be unveiling a 165-year-old photograph of the former president. A museum official says the photo was taken in 1858 of Lincoln after he gave a speech in Pittsfield during his U.S. Senate campaign.
The family who donated the picture are descendants of a man who was injured while trying to load a cannon at the event. The photo will be on display at the museum beginning on Monday, Oct. 2.
