National Guard to deploy overseas

More than 300 Illinois National Guard soldiers are being deployed overseas.

During a deployment ceremony Saturday in Chicago, the soldiers heard their orders to deploy to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield. The deployment will be for 400 days.

Among those attending the ceremony were Gov. J.B. Pritzker and members of Illinois’ Congressional delegation.

Poll shows disapproval of mayor

A new poll shows Chicagoans are not pleased with Mayor Brandon Johnson.

At least 70% of voters said they do not approve of Johnson’s performance after his first eight months in office. The poll by the education-reform advocacy group Stand for Children also found that 43% of those surveyed rated Johnson’s mayoral performance as “poor,” while 27% said it was “only fair.”
