Naval station plot
A former U.S. Navy sailor faces a long prison term after pleading guilty to plotting to attack Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago, allegedly on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in order to avenge the death of one of its leaders.
According to court records filed in the case, the Department of Justice says, in 2021, 38-year-old Xuanyu Harry Pang communicated with an individual in Colombia about possibly assisting with a plan involving Iranian actors to conduct the attack.
New York men charged with gold scam
Two men from New York are facing felony charges after allegedly scamming an elderly Illinois woman into buying thousands of dollars in gold bars.
On Feb. 24, staff at a coin and gold exchange in Lincolnshire alerted police to a potential scam after an elderly woman purchased $750,000 worth of gold bars. Lincolnshire police officers questioned the woman and recognized signs of fraud.
She told police she bought the gold to give it to someone who claimed to be a government employee and threatened to arrest her unless she paid.
Illinois Product Expo this weekend
The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced the return of the Illinois Product Expo, taking place on March 1 and 2 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
For 26 years, the Illinois Product Expo has brought together local food companies and consumers, celebrating the best of Illinois’ culinary and agricultural favorites.
Organizers said attendees can sample a variety of products, visit the Illinois Wine Garden, and stock up on their Illinois favorites.
