Nursing home violations announced

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced that it has posted the 2024 Third Quarter Report of Nursing Home Violations.

Four facilities, two in Chicago, one in Mount Morris and one in Belleville, were cited with type “AA” violations of the Nursing Home Care Act, the most severe type of violation. An “AA” violation is cited when there is a condition or occurrence at the facility that proximately caused a resident’s death.

College cutting back

An Illinois school facing financial challenges is making cutbacks.

Columbia College Chicago announced it will be cutting 11 degree programs and lay off up to 25 full-time faculty members beginning in the 2025-26 school year. Columbia will also consolidate nine existing programs, so other degrees will no longer be offered but integrated into other programs.

Grubhub settles case

Illinois’ attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission have announced a $25 million settlement with Grubhub over alleged deceptive practices.

Kwame Raoul’s office began the investigation into Grubhub’s practices after receiving consumer complaints. The investigation alleges the company misled consumers about the cost of deliveries, misled drivers about the amount of money they could earn, and listed some restaurants on the Grubhub app without their knowledge or consent.
