Police look for suspect after murder of USPS worker

Chicago police are looking for the suspect in connection with the shooting death of a United States Postal Service letter carrier. The 48-year-old woman was shot around 11:30 a.m. Friday. According to police, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No one is in custody.

State EPA announces waste collection days

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is announcing ten upcoming Household Hazardous Waste one-day collection locations for the Fall of 2024. Residents participating are encouraged to bring chemical cleaners, oil-based paints, thinners, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, weed killers, pesticides, and similar hazardous household products. The first event is August 17 in Champaign, with other locations opening through November, including in Bloomington, Springfield and Carbondale.

Harness racing set for early August

The Illinois State Fair Grandstand will host harness racing to kick off County Fairs and Horse Racing Day on Thursday, August 8. Recognized as one of the fastest dirt tracks in the world, the one-mile track will feature strictly Illinois Department of Agriculture sponsored races on opening day. Every horse that takes the track will be either Illinois conceived or foaled. The 2024 Illinois State Fair runs from August 8th through August 18th in Springfield.
