Pritzker building coalition of governors
As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House, Gov. J.B. Pritzker is leading a push against some of Trump’s expected moves with a new coalition.
The organization called Governors Safeguarding Democracy follows a setup similar to what’s been done for abortion rights and aims to strengthen democratic institutions at the state level during a second Trump presidency.
Pritzker indicated mass deportations and the rollback of environmental regulations are among the issues that the group will address.
Rivian expanding with Volkswagen
Shares of Rivian jumped Wednesday after the electric vehicle manufacturer announced an expansion of the Normal-based company’s partnership with Volkswagen.
The joint venture will begin operations immediately, initially in North America and eventually expanding to Europe, and will also support the development of EVs in the subcompact segment.
Volkswagen will increase its investment from $5 billion to $5.8 billion. Shares of the German automaker fell on the news.
Turkey harvest totals
Illinois hunters harvested nearly 300 wild turkeys across the state during the fall firearm season, a 10% increase from last year’s season.
Turkey hunting was open in 56 of the 102 counties in Illinois. The county with the highest turkey total was Jefferson.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources said the all-time record for harvested turkeys was 1,218 in 2005.
