Illinois quick hits: Pritzker seeks assistance with migrants; SEC charges ComEd

Pritzker seeks assistance with migrants

Gov. J.B. Pritzker is reaching out to communities outside of Chicago to help house and provide services to the continued flow of non-citizen arrivals, which has totaled at least 15,000.

Dozens of buses carrying migrants have arrived in Chicago over the past year. Pritzker said the state of Illinois has spent $328 million to help manage the migrant crisis and he is calling on the federal government for financial support.

SEC charges ComEd

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Commonwealth Edison and its former CEO with fraud Thursday in connection to an alleged corruption scheme involving former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan.

ComEd agreed to settle the case, paying a penalty of more than $46 million. Charges against former CEO Anne Pramaggiore will move forward. Madigan, who is charged in a separate federal racketeering indictment, will go to trial in April.

Trout season opens soon

The 2023 Illinois fall trout season will open Saturday, Oct. 21 at 59 ponds, lakes and streams throughout the state, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is warning anglers that warm weather may delay some early stockings this fall.

Trout stocked in waters warmer than 70 degrees will experience high mortality. IDNR will stock the early catch-and-release sites as soon as water temperatures cool.
