Illinois quick hits: Protesters oppose USPS cuts; Naperville among ‘Best Places to Live’

Protesters oppose USPS cuts

Workers shouting chants, wearing red and carrying signs gathered in cities around Illinois on Sunday, including in Chicago, Springfield and Peoria, to protest the Trump administration’s plan to privatize the U.S. Postal Service. Postmaster Louis DeJoy is reportedly working with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to cut 10,000 workers and billions of dollars. The USPS currently employs 640,000 workers.

New drinking water law

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed into law a bill that aims to enhance the quality of drinking water in Illinois. The law will require the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to conduct tests of community water supplies to assess the levels of foreign chemicals. The measure also calls on the EPA to annually review chemicals that could pose health hazards. The law goes into effect Jan. 1.

Naperville is ranked 23rd overall, Clarendon Hills is ranked No. 25, and Hinsdale came in at No. 29. They were the only towns in Illinois to make the top 50.
