Protesters remain at DePaul University

Protesters and their encampment remain on the DePaul University campus after university officials said negotiations have stalled.

The students, known as the DePaul Divestment Coalition, are protesting the Israel-Hamas war and demanding that the school cut ties with companies that protesters said support the war.

DePaul’s administration wanted the encampment, which has been on the campus quad since April 30, dismantled by noon Sunday.

Celebrities to address Monmouth graduation

Featuring an address by a couple famous for their contributions to stage and screen, Monmouth College will hold its 167th annual Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 19.

Writer and director Jim Simpson and his wife, actress Sigourney Weaver, will deliver the commencement address to about 165 members of the Class of 2024. Simpson and Weaver, who have been married for nearly 40 years, will speak on the theme of “creative partnership.”

Illinois Products Farmers Market begins Thursday

The Illinois Department of Agriculture’s Illinois Product Farmers Market will begin Thursday at The Shed on the Illinois State Fairgrounds. All products sold are processed, produced or packaged in the state of Illinois.

The agency will match every dollar in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds spent at the market. If market goers spend $25 in SNAP, they will receive an additional $25 match to spend on fruits and vegetables.
