Some Eastern Illinois University employees walk off job

Some Eastern Illinois University employees walked off the job Wednesday asking for higher wages. Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal employees left work just before noon to march in front of the administration building. The employees are made up of cooks, maintenance workers and administrative assistants. Workers said negotiations with the school have been going on for the past six months.

Illinois paramedic faces charges for stealing from ambulances

A northern Illinois paramedic is facing charges for theft and drug charges for allegedly stealing medications from ambulances. Alex Wilhelmi worked for Metro Paramedic Services who provide service to the Troy Fire Protection District. Shorewood Police Chief Phillip Arnold said coworkers of the paramedic noticed suspicious activity and reported it. Investigators said Wilhelmi stole sedatives and medications from ambulances used to treat depression.

IDNR calls for safety with tree stands ahead of deer season

As Illinoisans across the state prepare for this weekend’s firearm deer season, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is urging hunters to use safety harnesses when hunting from tree stands in the field. Tree stands are the No. 1 source of hunting-related accidents and fatalities in Illinois. So far during the fall 2023 hunting season, which includes archery deer season, Illinois Conservation Police have documented two hunting-related fatalities, both of which involved tree stands. The 2023 firearm deer season dates are this weekend and also Nov. 30-Dec. 3.
