Illinois Quick Hits: Sonya Massey killer denied medical release

(The Center Square) – Sean Grayson, the former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy convicted of killing Sonya Massey in her Springfield home, was denied in his request for an early release from state prison by the Illinois Prisoner Review Board Friday.

Grayson asked for an early medical release in May, citing his condition with colon cancer, which the request listed as “advanced.”

Demonstrators gathered outside before the review board’s meeting, calling on the board to deny Grayson’s request. The board unanimously voted to reject the release 3-0.

The change reportedly comes at the request of the school, which has gotten feedback from families and students over multiple years in favor of changing the school’s name back to its name from before 1954.

COUNTY BOARD CHAIR’S PUBLIC CALL FOR HANGING OF FAUCI SEES PUSHBACK

Madison County Board Chairman Chris Slusser shared a comment on Facebook this week, calling for a “public hanging” of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former medical advisor to President Joe Biden and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Slussler defended the comment Friday, calling it “obvious rhetorical hyperbole,” noting that he meant there needed to be more public scrutiny.

State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Collinsville, shared a press release in response to Slussler’s comments, calling them “harmful and disgusting,” before further condemning an upward trend of political violence across the nation.
