State’s attorney’s race takes shape
There is finally a winner in the Democratic primary for Cook County state’s attorney. Eileen O’Neill-Burke narrowly defeated Clayton Harris III.
The amount of mail-in votes expected to be received before the April 2 deadline is unlikely to affect the results. Harris called O’Neill-Burke to concede and his campaign manager said they will not seek a recount.
O’Neill Burke will face Republican Bob Fioretti and libertarian Andrew Kopinski in November’s general election.
Measure seeks to address video gambling disparities
There is a proposal to bring video gambling to Chicago. The legislation is sponsored by state Rep. Kam Buckner and is designed to help stabilize a $17 billion city budget.
Buckner told the Chicago Tribune a larger goal is to address what he calls racial disparities within the state’s video gambling industry, which generated nearly $960 million in tax revenue for state and local governments last year.
Recent airport incidents
O’Hare International Airport was the site of two recent incidents involving planes.
A plane that departed Denver headed for London, England was forced to land at O’Hare Sunday night because of a cracked windshield. A Frontier Airlines plane was evacuated Monday morning after reports of smoke in the cockpit.
No major injuries were reported in either incident.
