Stellantis’ Belvidere plant to receive grant

Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced Stellantis’ Belvidere plant as the recipient of $334 million in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Domestic Manufacturing Conversion Grant Program.

The awards also went to plants in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia, several of which are crucial in the November presidential election.

Statewide bike ride for COPS

Members of law enforcement will be participating in a charity bike ride across the state to honor officers who have died in the line of duty.

The 20th Annual Cycle Across Illinois is underway and will continue through Sunday as participants ride from Edwardsville to Chicago. The event benefits Illinois Concerns of Police Survivors, or COPS, an organization that supports police departments and their families in times of mourning.

This year, COPS has recognized six fallen members of law enforcement.

Field of Beans BBQ Grand Slam

The Illinois Soybean Association is hosting the Illinois Field of Beans BBQ Grand Slam. This professional BBQ competition series consists of four events within the larger Kansas City Barbecue Society Competition Circuit and will judge competitors on three categories: chicken, pork, and ribs.

Preliminary rounds begin July 27 and will be held in Collinsville, Troy and Pierron, with the grand finale taking place in Murphysboro. The first prize is $1,500.
