Illinois quick hits: Storms Friday; regulating reservations; donations to DCFS

Storms Friday

Severe storms are expected to roll through Illinois Friday night. The line of thunderstorms will affect western Illinois around 8 p.m. and move rapidly across the state.

Strong winds will pick up in the afternoon and tornadoes are possible into the evening hours. Wind advisories have been issued for most of Illinois beginning Friday afternoon and lasting through Saturday afternoon.

Regulating reservations

Some Illinois lawmakers are proposing legislation that would ban third-party service companies from selling restaurant reservations online.

State Rep. Margaret Croke, one of the sponsors of the bill, said she has been working with the Illinois Restaurant Association, which drafted the ordinance. The measure wouldn’t impact Resy and Open Table but third-party vendors who are using bots.

Donations to DCFS

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services will join Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority at the Centennial Regional Conference at McCormick Place in Chicago Friday to accept a donation of $9,200 along with bottles, diapers, wipes and other childcare items.

The donation is a result of a months-long collection drive to bring awareness and advocacy to the needs of minority women and their maternal health and perinatal needs.

The donated items will be delivered to DCFS offices statewide and distributed to families served by the department.
