Tinley Park adopts rules to ticket, impound migrant buses

Another Illinois community is cracking down on bus companies that try to drop off migrants without warning. The Tinley Park village board has adopted an ordinance that grants police the power to ticket bus operators or impound their vehicles if drivers attempt to make an unscheduled stop and unload passengers. Bus operators must seek permission from police beforehand. After Chicago made a similar move, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott this week sent a plane load of migrants to O’Hare Airport and vows to send more.

Former Cole County prosecutor pleads guilty

A former Coles County Assistant State’s Attorney has pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted official misconduct based on bribery. Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office reports Brady Allen admitted to interactions he had in his official capacity with Coles County women who were prosecuted by the state’s attorney’s office. From December 2018 until he resigned in August 2020, Allen was accused of inappropriate text, email, phone and social media communications that were sexual in nature with female defendants.

State Treasurer returns $64,500 to Salvation Army

One charity received a large donation from an Illinois official on national television this week. Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned $64,500 to the Salvation Army through iCash, the state’s unclaimed property program. The donation was featured on ABC’s Good Morning America on Wednesday. The agency is legally required to hold onto missing money like forgotten bank accounts and unpaid life insurance benefits until it is returned to its rightful owner.
