Illinois quick hits: Tow truck driver murdered; funeral home loses license

Tow truck driver murdered

A tow truck driver and Navy veteran was killed on the job in Chicago.

Jack Jacobsen, 27, had just repossessed a Land Rover Friday. Soon after, he was found shot to death in his tow truck after being ambushed by a large group of people. Police said the front windshield was riddled with bullet holes.

Investigators are now pulling video from a city pod camera nearby and tow truck cameras for clues.

Funeral home loses license

A Carlinville funeral home lost its license after an investigation by the Sangamon County coroner discovered remains that had been mishandled.

The office said it received hundreds of calls from families that were given the wrong remains by Heinz Funeral Home. In one case, the coroner’s office said a deceased woman had been left in a hospital morgue for nearly a month, despite the funeral home’s assurances that she had been cremated and her remains had been provided to the family.

Manufacturing tour begins

Officials in the manufacturing sector are continuing to tour the state to spotlight the manufacturing industry.

Illinois Manufacturers’ Association president Mark Denzler along with the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center are visiting manufacturing facilities, colleges and high schools around the state as part of the “Makers on the Move” bus tour. The group had planned stops in Springfield, Jacksonville and Peoria on Monday.
