Illinois quick hits: Two tech hubs announced; Chicago ‘rattiest city’ 9th year in a row

Two tech hubs announced

The White House has announced the locations of tech hubs around the country to focus on issues related to artificial intelligence, agriculture and more, and two of the hubs will be located in Illinois.

According to the Biden administration, hubs based in Chicago and Champaign-Urbana were among 31 projects that will receive funding through the program. One of the Illinois-based hubs, the Central Illinois Fermentation and Agriculture Biomanufacturing hub, will be located at the University of Illinois, where they will identify practices that will help improve food security.

Radar repairs

The radar at the National Weather Service in Lincoln will be down for a while. The pedestal which allows the radar to rotate and collect data from all directions is being replaced.

For the next two weeks, forecasters will rely on radars from surrounding areas to detect any warnings, including in Chicago, the Quad Cities, Evansville and the Metro East.

Chicago ‘rattiest city’ 9th year in a row

For the ninth consecutive year, Chicago has been named the rattiest city in America.

Orkin has released its 2023 list of the “rattiest cities” in the U.S., which ranks 50 of the nation’s busiest metro regions by “the number of new rodent treatments” performed over a period of 12 months.

Rounding out the top five rattiest cities were Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco.
