Man dies after elevator malfunction

A man working in Joliet was killed after he fell down an elevator shaft Wednesday. The incident took place at the Joliet Equipment Corporation Building.

Police said the 23-year-old employee was on the second floor carrying cabinets in the elevator when the elevator began to rise with the door still open. The man tried to escape but fell into the elevator shaft. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Water gun fights sparks concern

A game popular with teens is raising safety concerns after a recent incident involving a concealed carry holder in Gurnee. The game, known as “Senior Assassins,” involves participants targeting each other with water guns.

A group of high school students recently entered a restaurant in Gurnee wearing ski masks and brandishing water guns that closely resembled real firearms. According to police, a concealed carry holder nearly intervened.

Similar incidents have been reported in other suburban areas, including St. Charles.

Rantoul to refurbish rocket

A central Illinois community has agreed to refurbish a ballistic missile that has been a mainstay at a local airfield.

City officials in Rantoul have hired an auto body shop to beautify a deteriorating Minute Man Missile that was installed at Chanute Air Force Base in 1966. The air base closed in the early 1990s. The missile remained but has become distressed over the years.

The cost to renovate the missile is $47,0000.
