Illinois quick hits: Water rate hike approved; Ram Heavy Duty trucks recalled

Water rate hike approved

Illinois American Water customers will see their bills increase, but not as much as the utility was requesting.

The Illinois Commerce Commission cut portions of the utility’s rate hike request by about 30% for an overall increase of $110 million. The Citizens Utility Board lobbied the ICC to cut the rate request by 32%.

Company officials said the rate hike was needed for maintenance and system improvements.

Stellantis is recalling more than 300,000 Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks because a faulty part could cause certain braking and tracking systems to fail. The trucks in question are all model years 2017-18.

Stellantis has been struggling with falling sales that have led to layoffs and ballooning inventory on dealer lots. There have been calls by lawmakers for Stellantis to reopen its plant in Belvidere, which the company put on hold.

Warmer weather this weekend

Illinoisans will be getting a break from the frigid temperatures that have been hanging around of late.

Milder temperatures are expected to move in this weekend, with highs in the 40s on Saturday, and into the 50s on Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to dip below normal again next week before returning to normal near the weekend.
