West Nile spreads in Illinois

West Nile Virus is becoming more prevalent around Illinois.

A mosquito pool collected in McLean County has tested positive for West Nile Virus. It is the second positive test in the county this season. The Tazewell County Health Department reported this week that a bird collected from the county has recently tested positive for the West Nile virus.

West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne disease that can cause inflammation of the brain. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, there have been 18 human cases of the virus in Illinois with one reported death.

Intruder killed in home invasion

A woman with a valid FOID card shot and killed a man who broke into her home Wednesday in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.

According to police, two gunmen broke into a residence and flashed guns. A 23-year-old woman inside the home also pulled out a gun and a shootout ensued.

One of the gunmen was shot in the chest and later died at the hospital. The other man ran off.

Study: Illinois is a fun place to live

A new study finds that Illinois is a fun place to be.

The personal finance website WalletHub attempted to score each state on 26 different metrics divided into two categories: Entertainment & Recreation, and Nightlife. Illinois came in sixth in the ranking.

WalletHub said Florida is the most fun state, while West Virginia is the least fun state.
