Pritzker to sign gun confiscation bill
A measure that requires law enforcement to confiscate firearms from subjects of domestic orders of protection will become law Monday after Gov. J.B. Pritzker signs the bill that passed during lame duck session last month.
Proponents say Karina’s Law is needed to take guns away from alleged domestic abusers. Opponents say the measure bypasses due process rights.
Madigan jury continues deliverations
The jury resumes deliberations at the corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain.
Jurors started deliberating Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the trial that began with jury selection last Oct. 8. Madigan was speaker for more than 35 years and chaired the Democratic Party of Illinois for 23 years.
Pritzker video trolls Trump
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is trolling President Donald Trump’s decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
On his political social media account, Pritzker said Lake Michigan will be named Lake Illinois.
The governor also said he plans to make an “important announcement” about the Mississippi River. Trump signed the official proclamation for the Gulf of America as he flew over the body of water towards the Super Bowl Sunday.
