VIDEO: ‘Flip red,’ ‘vote Trump,’ some residents tell Chicago city council

(The Center Square) – In a city dominated by Democratic politics, some residents in Chicago are urging the city to “flip red” in support of former President Donald Trump.

Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931. During Tuesday’s city council meeting, Zoe Leigh said residents have had enough.

“The city of Chicago is the most corrupt city on the planet and it’s run by a Democratic machine,” Leigh said. “And you guys have been doing this for decades. You guys have been taking our generational wealth.”

Other speakers had similar messages, upset at the city’s policies to use tax dollars to house non-citizen migrants. They urged voters to support Trump.

“So I want every gang member, every gang member, no matter what you are … I want you to line them polls up, we flipping red,” said Michael Young Bay. “You all are a disgrace.”

After the meeting, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reacted to some of the messages heard during the council meeting.

“The petulance that exists, look, I get it. That puts on a show for you all, quite frankly,” Johnson said.

To the choice between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump, Johnson said Trump would be bad for the nation.

“He said it, if you educate children on the history of Mayor Harold Washington, or the descendants of slaves, he’s not going to send your state money. He said it. He’s on record,” Johnson said. “He is the antithesis to the hopes and aspirations and the dreams of our ancestors, so not only would it be problematic to the city of Chicago, he would be devastating to the globe.”

Johnson has campaigned in other states for Harris’ campaign.

The election is Nov. 5. Early voting is underway.
