Iowa Utilities Board to resume carbon pipeline hearings in November

(The Center Square) – The Iowa Utilities Board will continue to hear from landowners and others when public hearings on the Summit Carbon Solutions proposed pipeline resume in November.

The board heard seven weeks of testimony about the more than 2,000-mile pipeline traversing through four other states. The next round of hearings begins Nov. 6 in Fort Dodge and continues through Nov. 8, according to a news release from IUB. The board said they would hear from every witness wanting to testify.

Summit is scheduled to present rebuttal testimony Nov. 16-17.

IUB canceled its regular meetings through the end of the year because of its high volume of proceedings, which include Summit.

North Dakota and South Dakota regulators denied Summit permits in their state. The North Dakota Public Service Commission allowed Summit to resubmit its application, which the company said it would do.

The pipeline will also go through portions of Minnesota and Nebraska.

Landowners in the pipeline’s path testified the pipeline would negatively impact farming, ranching and other businesses.

The IUB will not issue a final decision until all of the testimony is heard and all of the documents and comments reviewed, the news release said.
