Michigan gas prices still falling

(The Center Square) – Gas prices continue to drop in Michigan but not as much as some of its neighbors.

According to AAA, Michiganders are paying an average of $3.13 a gallon today, but motorists in Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin are all paying less than $3 a gallon on average.

Due to decreased demand, prices continue to fall during November, an unusual trend according to AAA. The Energy Information Administration estimate for demand was also unusually high, AAA said.

Michigan’s Wednesday average was a penny lower than Tuesday and 9 cents below last week. A year ago, people in Michigan were paying $3.60 a gallon.

Gas prices in Michigan reached $3.73 in early August.

That drop means drivers would save more than almost $1.50 on a 60-mile trip with a vehicle that gets 20 miles a gallon.

Drivers in Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin would save more, however.

The average price in Ohio is $2.97, while Hoosiers are paying $3.07 and drivers in Wisconsin pay $2.95.

The highest prices in Michigan are in the Upper Peninsula, where half the counties pay nearly $3.30 and above, with Mackinac County having the highest average rate of $3.47 a gallon.

Oakland, Livingston and Jackson counties, near Detroit, all show prices above $3.25, while those in Detroit pay $3.14.

Some of the state’s lowest prices are in the central western part of the state where Mason, Oceana and Muskegon counties are all paying less than $3 a gallon.
