Home to the city of Petoskey, Emmet County has a population of 33,946 people, 22.5% of whom are retirement age.
One reason the county stands out among other parts of the state is the concentration of primary care physicians. There are 119.8 doctors for every 100,000 people in the county, compared to just 80.3 per 100,000 across the state as a whole.
