UAW expands auto strike to Texas SUV plant

(The Center Square) – The United Auto Workers expanded its far-reaching strike on Tuesday to include a General Motors SUV plant in Texas.

About 5,000 workers at the Arlington Assembly Plant, where the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe and other SUVs are made.

The latest walkout comes a day after 6,800 workers walked off the job at Stellantis’ largest and most profitable plant, the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan.

UAW’s strike against American automakers started Sept. 15 and now includes more than 45,000 workers in seven assembly plants and 38 parts distribution centers across 22 states, as The Center Square previously reported.

The union is seeking double-digit pay raises, cost of living adjustment restoration, eliminating tiers on wages and benefits, defined benefit pensions for everyone, and re-establishing retiree medical benefits.
