WATCH: Physician assistant loses job after opposing trans policy

(The Center Square) – Valerie Kloosterman worked as a physician assistant at the University of Michigan Health-West hospital system for 17 years until one day she was fired.

Kloosterman says she was fired for refusing to violate her religious beliefs and endorse administering transgender drugs and procedures, an increasingly controversial practice that has been banned for minors in some states.

Kloosterman said she had no problems at her job and that there was no transgender person complaining about her beliefs. But when Human Resources found out about her stance, based on her religious beliefs, she says she was called into the office for questioning, was called “evil” and then fired.

Now Kloosterman has filed a lawsuit.

Kloosterman and Doug Peterson, an attorney with First Liberty Institute, a group representing Kloosterman in her lawsuit, spoke with The Center Square.
