(The Center Square) – A Dayton woman banned from being a Medicaid provider six years ago pleaded guilty Monday to $1.5 million in more fraud.
Janay Corbitt pleaded guilty to second-degree theft and three counts of third-degree identity theft, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said.
“Her luck has run out – kudos to our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for bringing this scheme to light,” Yost said.
Corbitt was indicted again in May 2024 after investigators said she stole several identities and opened and operated two behavioral health counseling agencies in the Dayton area.
Yost called those agencies shams.
Investigators also said she stole the identity of several licensed counselors and used their credentials to bill Medicaid for services that weren’t provided.
Corbitt was arrested in August 2024 at a bus stop in Dallas after she fled and spent several months on the run. She’s scheduled to be sentenced early next month.
She was convicted of theft in 2019 in a separate Medicaid scheme and was ordered to pay more than $204,000 in restitution. As of August, she had paid a little more than $6,000.
In the last five years, Yost’s Medicaid Fraud Unit has handled more than 5,000 complaints, posted 879 indictments, recorded 895 convictions and recovered more than $130 million in restitution and penalties.
