Different Ron Johnson nominated as ambassador to Mexico

(The Center Square) – Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senator is not going to be ambassador to Mexico under President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump on Wednesday nominated a different Ron Johnson to the job.

That Ron Johnson is the former ambassador to El Salvador and spent time in the Army and the CIA.

Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson had to take to social media to say it’s not him and explain that there are a lot of Ron Johnsons in the country.

“I never played in the NFL. I wasn’t the CEO of JCPenney. And I haven’t been nominated to be U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. There are a few of us Ron Johnsons out there,” Johnson wrote.

Of the to-be ambassador, Trump offered him praise in a post of Truth Social.

“Ron will work closely with our great Secretary of State Nominee, Marco Rubio, to promote our Nation’s security and prosperity through strong America First Foreign Policies,” Trump said in a post.

Ambassador Johnson’s full name is Ronald Douglas Johnson, while Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson’s full name is Ronald Harold Johnson.

The two Johnsons caused some confusion online and of course later led to lots of jokes.

But the bottom line is that Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson is not leaving the Senate. He was re-elected in 2022.

Trump is looking to elevate one of Wisconsin’s former members of Congress. He has tapped former Northwoods Congressman Sean Duffy for transportation secretary.
