Evers hopes for more collaborative work with Wisconsin Legislature

(The Center Square) – Democrats flipped two Wisconsin Senate seats and filled another empty seat, something Republican leaders blamed on gerrymandered maps.

Gov. Tony Evers’ campaign said the opposite, that voters were finally relieved of “undemocratic, gerrymandered” maps that were used previously.

“Republican lawmakers can no longer ignore the will of the people,” Evers’ campaign said. “With a record number of Democratic candidates running for office, we picked up ten seats in the State Assembly and we’re on track to have a Democratic majority in the State Senate after the next election.”

Evers and Republican leaders have battled over budgetary items in the past and the same could occur with another two-year budget set to be determined in 2025.

“This next legislative session, I am hopeful we will finally begin to see a Legislature that is more cooperative, more collaborative, and more responsive to the will of the people of this state,” Evers said. “Together, I believe we can build upon our work to invest in public education at every level, support farmers, veterans, and small businesses, address our generational workforce challenges, protect access to health care and reproductive freedom, and support working families across Wisconsin.”

The Evers’ campaign also promised to fight for “LGBTQ families and kids, especially our trans and nonbinary kids” along with affordable health care, reproductive freedom and reversing the climate crisis.

“I still believe there is more that unites us than divides us,” the Evers campaign said. “I still believe in our Wisconsin values of kindness, empathy, compassion, and respect, and in our ability to come together even in the darkest of times as neighbors helping neighbors.”
