Vos calls recall effort ‘waste of time’

(The Center Square) – Wisconsin’s powerful Assembly speaker doesn’t appear worried about the effort from a Racine County voter to oust him from office before the November election.

Matthew Snorek, of Burlington, filed a petition with the Wisconsin Elections Commission to begin a recall campaign against Speaker Robin Vos.

“Robin Vos is out of touch with reality and no longer represents the voice of the people,” Snorek said. “The simple fact that Vos promised to do everything in his power to block President Trump from the 2024 ballot tells you everything you need to know.”

Snorek is also angry Vos has not moved to impeach Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Megan Wolfe.

“He is blocking fair elections in Wisconsin. Vos mislead the Assembly in the impeachment process of Meghan Wolfe, and Vos supported the unlawful drop boxes,” the recall campaign said in a statement.

Vos said he’s not afraid to face voters in June.

“The [recall] effort is no surprise since the people involved cannot seem to get over any election in which their preferred candidate doesn’t win,” Vos said in a statement. “This recall is a waste of time, resources and effort. I’m proud of my record and the accomplishments that we’ve achieved this year.”

Snorek ran for and lost a seat on Burlington’s town council. Vos said he’s working with Harry Waite, who’s been charged with election fraud after prosecutors say he requested an absentee ballot in Vos’ name during the 2022 election.

“These same individuals were involved in my 2022 GOP primary where I defeated them. They continued their efforts with a write-in in the fall 2022 election where they also lost,” Vos added. “While the backers of this recall effort want to focus on the past, I am going to keep my eyes focused on the future. We have elections to win in the fall. We have an aggressive spring agenda focused on returning our surplus to taxpayers and making key investments in priority areas.”

Snorek and his recall campaign have two months to collect about 7,000 signatures to get the recall effort on the ballot.

But the recall also allows Vos to raise unlimited campaign cash moving forward.

A recall election would be in June, just before the August primary, and ultimately the November election.
