Wisconsin sees record 949K in-person ballots for Tuesday’s election

(The Center Square) – Wisconsin saw a record 949,157 in-person absentee voters heading into Tuesday’s election.

Those votes, along mail-in absentee ballots, will be counted Tuesday and then included in unofficial election results posted by the state’s 72 counties.

Overall, Wisconsin voters have completed and returned 1,510,773 ballots. The state will have 3,611 polling places open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Voters need to be in line by 8 p.m. in order to vote,” said Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe.

Wisconsin has 3,658,236 active registered voters of the estimated voting age population of 4,713,323.

Voters can register on Election Day at the polls. Voters must bring a drivers’ license or identification and proof of residence to register.

Mail-in absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Tuesday to be counted.

Overall, the state has 42 central count processing facilities at different municipalities, including one in Milwaukee. Central count facilities will post the number of absentee ballots received before the count is complete.

Municipalities that do not use a separate central count facility have the absentee ballots sent to individually polling places, where they are counted.

After voting is completed, the results for each of the 72 Wisconsin counties will be posted on a county website.

The WEC does not post consolidated statewide results.
