2 Children Dead, 17 Wounded in Minnesota Catholic School Shooting

What was supposed to be a sacred morning Mass turned into terror inside a Minneapolis Catholic school. A gunman opened fire through a stained-glass window at Annunciation Catholic School, killing two children, ages 8 and 10, and injuring 17 others, mostly children.

The shooter, 23-year-old Robin Westman, carried a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol before turning his weapon on himself. Police said he acted alone.

Parents were rushed to a safety area as the city and nation reeled in pain.

President Donald Trump ordered flags flown at half-staff, while Gov. Tim Walz said simply, “Minnesota is heartbroken.”

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops called for healing. Annunciation Church, a school with nearly 400 children, was left scarred by the horrific shooting.

The shooting comes as schools across the country are just beginning to return, and the nation again faces how it will confront its gun crisis.
