Actor Hill Harper has announced he will run for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.
“I believe our government should work for the people, be a force for good and protect our freedoms, and that won’t happen if we keep electing the same type of people to office,” Harper says in a video announcing his candidacy.
The ‘Good Doctor,’ who also hosted HLN’s Prime Video series “How It Really Happened,” is running as a Democrat for retired Debbie Stabenow’s seat. He’ll be running against Michigan Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin in the primary, who announced her own candidacy in February.
Harper’s website frames him as a dedicated lawyer, actor, and single father. His announcement video is dedicated to his son, who is adopted. Throughout the video, he says he’s fighting for people’s freedom.
“Our economy works for the richest, while the most vulnerable have to work even harder than ever to keep up. That’s not freedom. At the core of so much of this are too many politicians in office that don’t really care about people.”
