(AURN News) — Will airfare prices rise? And how will the up and down of prices and the economy affect the midterm elections, now less than 100 days away?
Oil prices will for sure come into play. Crude oil remains on a roller coaster ride as a result of U.S.-Iran tensions, where the constant stop and start of attacks between the two countries continues to weigh on the economy.
This week, crude oil prices have remained above $80 a barrel, which could translate into higher prices for Americans as they take to the skies.
According to TheStreet, American Airlines said its fuel costs increased by more than $2.2 billion during the second quarter, an 83% increase.
TheStreet also reported that if jet fuel averages $3.75 a gallon in the third quarter, American could see another $1.7 billion in costs compared with last year.
That means oil prices, airfare, inflation and the broader economy could all become major issues as voters head into the midterm elections.
