American Pride Hits Historic Low, Gallup Poll Finds

(AURN ) — Fewer Americans are proud of their country than ever before — and the latest Gallup poll shows that pride is now shaped sharply by party lines.

Only 58 percent of U.S. adults say they are “extremely” or “very” proud to be American, according to Gallup. That marks a nine-point drop from 2024 and five points lower than in 2020.

When Gallup first asked the question in January 2001, 87 percent of Americans said they were proud to be American. In the wake of the September 11 attacks, pride jumped to 90 percent and stayed high through 2004. The first significant decline came in 2005.

This year’s findings reveal a sharp political divide:

  • Republican pride climbed to 92 percent, up from 85 percent last year.
  • Democratic pride plunged from 62 percent to just 36 percent.
  • Independent pride fell to 53 percent — another record low for that group.

The new shows how deeply patriotism has fractured along party lines. While continue to report strong pride in the country, Democrats and independents are moving in the opposite direction. Gallup did not draw conclusions about the cause of the decline.
